After graduation from Gables I attended Michigan State University. There I majored in economics and was a varsity gymnast. After graduation in 1965 I went for a camping trip in Yellowstone before going into the Peace Corps. During the camping trip I was mauled by a bear. (I will give you the details if interested). I entered the Corps and met my future wife who was my boss (liaison between the Philippine government and Peace Corps). She left the Philippines to return to MSU to study for her doctorate in sociology after I had been in the country 6 months. When I left the Peace Corps 18 months later I returned to MSU to study for my MBA in finance. There we met and married.
After my MBA I was drafted and my wife taught college. When I got out I worked in a bunch of financial jobs and my wife, Alicia, continued teaching college. We had two sons, Jon and Sean. Jon graduated from the U of Chicago and is the director of computer operations for a printing company in Orlando. He and his wife, Patty, have a daughter, Sophia Paige Young, now seven months old. Sean graduated from the U of Illinois at Champaign and became a CPA. He is single and currently works for WW Grainger.
My current passion is my run for Illinois State Representative as a Libertarian candidate. It is quite a story.
My view of Gables was that it was one of the best high schools in the country and that I was privileged to have attended. My dream is to start a private high school modeled after Gables.
