Retired

Greetings from the rolling hills of South Georgia. I retired from the Navy after 29 years of active duty and reserves in 1991. Retired from the Florida Department of Revenue in 2006 with 35 years service in audit. My "bride" Joanne (via Pensacola and Toccoa Falls College) served 4 years in the reserves with me at Naval Air Station, Jacksonville. She retired in 2006 with 37 years of teaching at North Florida Christian School (Tallahassee) where I coached fast pitch softball for ten years. We had the talent to advance four times to the final four for FHSAA. We finished second twice. Joanne took vocal groups to two state championships for gold medals. We celebrate 40 years of marriage December 16, 2012. I am in my 30th year of umpiring for the City of Tallahassee and ASA and have had the priviledge of umpiring in eleven national championships.

Our daughter and her husband Jarod have three sons while our son Robb and Kim have a daughter. Robb graduated from FSU and Kim from FSU and FAMU where she earned a masters in pharmacy. Robb finished his high school career (6'5" basketball player, cross country and track) with a gold medal in the 4x800 and silver in the 800 at state.

Joanne survived breast cancer and a botched reconstruction fourteen years ago and I had my left kidney removed in 2008 and my right adrenal gland removed in 2010 for cancer. Along with those challenges came two seizures. The first tore up both shoulders and the second broke my back while stopped in traffic in Sarasota. I never had an arm problem before then even though it didn't seem to impress Coach Krutulis at tryouts in 1960-1962. I actually played baseball and football for the Navy from 1965-1967. The second seizure was followed by a stroke the next day and the finding of the kidney cancer as a result two days later!! Four things, four days!!

We have had no chemo nor any cancer drugs for either of us!! We enjoy the peace and quiet of a 31 acre spread in South Georgia, 30 minutes from Tallahassee. God is definitely good, all the time!!! We wish you all a healthy, long and prosperous life in the years to come. See you at the 75th.!!!
